Artificial Intelligence Law

Artificial Intelligence Law in practice

An AI project rarely runs into just one piece of legislation. An online shop that writes product descriptions with a language model has to deal with AI Act transparency duties, the vendor's licence terms and whether customer personal data ends up in prompts. This page is a map: it shows which rules may apply to you and where to find more detail on each topic.

We are a law firm; the technical side of your project is handled by your own team or a vendor. We take care of the legal and regulatory side: classification under the EU AI Act, data protection impact assessments, an internal AI policy, vendor contracts, training data review and allocation of liability. For high-risk systems we work with your engineers on the documentation required by Annex IV of the AI Act.

What we help with

  • Classification of an AI system by risk category
  • GDPR and impact assessments for personal data processing
  • Training data review: origin, licences, copyright
  • Internal AI policy and rules for staff
  • AI vendor contracts, including data processing agreements
  • Ongoing compliance: DPIA updates, incident reporting, training

Worth knowing

The rules apply in parallel

The AI Act, GDPR, DSA and Data Act are directly applicable EU regulations. Alongside them apply the Slovak Data Protection Act No. 18/2018, the Slovak Copyright Act No. 185/2015 and the Slovak Civil Code.

The AI Act is phased in

The Article 5 bans have applied since 2 February 2025 and the obligations for general-purpose AI models since 2 August 2025. Obligations for high-risk systems apply with the transitional periods set out in Article 113.

No separate AI liability directive

The Commission withdrew its proposal in February 2025. Claims are assessed under Sections 420 and 421a of the Slovak Civil Code and Directive (EU) 2024/2853 on defective products.

Lawyer confidentiality

Your communication with us is covered by the lawyer's duty of confidentiality, which extends to our analysis of your AI project. Before starting work we verify the client's identity under Slovak Act No. 297/2008 on anti-money laundering.

Common questions

  • When it involves at least one of the following: a high-risk system under Annex III of the AI Act, processing of personal data, automated decisions under Article 22 GDPR, rolling out generative AI in the company, a copyright dispute over outputs or data, or damage caused by AI.
  • Yes, with rules in place. An internal policy listing approved tools, rules on personal data and trade secrets, staff training under Article 4 of the AI Act and vendor checks all help.
  • Yes. Building and deploying the model is handled by your team or outside specialists. Our role is the legal and regulatory side, and for high-risk systems we coordinate the mandatory documentation with them.
