EU Blue Card in Slovakia

EU Blue Card in Slovakia in practice

A Slovak company wants to hire a specialist from outside the EU, or you are that specialist. The EU Blue Card combines a residence permit with employment in a highly qualified role. What matters is your degree or professional experience, the employment contract and a salary above the statutory threshold, which is linked to the average wage in Slovakia and is updated regularly.

We work with both the employer and the applicant. We check that the role and the contract meet the conditions, arrange apostilles and translations of the diploma and criminal record certificate and file the application on your behalf. We can handle applications for family members at the same time and advise on what comes next, such as changing employer or moving to another EU country.

What we help with

  • Checking qualifications and the salary condition
  • Reviewing the employment contract
  • Apostilles, translations and recognition of diplomas
  • Filing the application on your behalf
  • Applications for family members
  • Planning renewal and mobility within the EU

Worth knowing

Who it is for

Nationals of countries outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland who hold a university degree or recognised professional experience and a job offer for a highly qualified position.

The salary threshold changes

The salary must reach a statutory threshold derived from the average wage in Slovakia. The threshold is updated regularly; we confirm the current figure at the consultation.

Family

A spouse and children can apply for residence for family reunification at the same time as the Blue Card holder.

Common questions

  • Yes. After 12 months as a Blue Card holder in Slovakia, you can apply for a Blue Card in another member state under a simplified procedure. The details depend on the destination country.
  • Losing your job does not automatically end your residence. The law gives the holder time to find new employment that meets the conditions or to switch to another type of residence. We advise on the steps for your situation.
  • Usually a passport, an employment contract or binding offer, proof of qualifications, a criminal record certificate, proof of accommodation and health insurance. Foreign documents often need an apostille and an official translation.
